Test 2. Variant 2

MANUAL FOR USE OF THE HYDRAULIC DRILLING RIG 1.6 SAFETY WARNINGS

Most accidents that occur during the use and maintenance of the drilling machine are due to negligence of the most fundamental safety measures and risks of potentially dangerous situations inherent in many operations. Whoever places themselves at the machine controls must have the skills and knowledge required for working in a jobsite, so as to not endanger their own life as well as that of other workers.

The use, lubrication, maintenance or repair of the machine carried out improperly can either lead to fatalities or cause serious harm to personnel.

Never operate the machine or carry out maintenance and repair operations without having first read and understood the procedures described in this manual.

Furthermore, the operator is the only one who can really be aware of the safety limits of the actual work he is carrying out.

The proper working and safety of the machine depend mostly on correct and regular maintenance of its parts. Therefore it is of utmost importance that the checking and specified operations in the manual are carried out carefully.

Always remember that the thorough knowledge of maintenance jobs and the care and precision they are carried out with are of fundamental importance in order to maintain machine safety standards as well as the efficiency and value of the rig in the years to come.

Test 2. Variant 3 What are asteroids?

The solar system contains millions of asteroids. They may be round or oblong. Some have even stranger shapes, as though molded in play dough and left in space to harden. All are made from the same stuff as the planets. However, unlike rocks on Earth, those that make up asteroids have not been shaped by erosion, heat or intense pressure.

All asteroids are fairly small. Their diameters tend to range from less than a kilometer (a little more than half a mile across) to nearly 1,000 kilometers (621 miles across). Together, all of the asteroids in our solar system have a combined mass that is less than that of Earth’s moon.

Some asteroids resemble small planets. More than 150 of them have their own moon. Some even have two. Still others orbit with a companion asteroid; these pairs race circles around each other as they orbit the sun.

The orbits of most fall in a swath of space between Mars and Jupiter. It’s known, naturally enough, as the asteroid belt. But that's still a lonely neighborhood: An individual asteroid is usually at least a kilometer (0.6 mile) away from its nearest neighbor.

Test 2. Variant 4

You shouldn't be too worried about the huge asteroid that's about to fly right past us

An asteroid named Florence will pass by Earth on September 1, and it’s the largest one to fly by since NASA started keeping records. But except for amateur astronomers and some NASA scientists, most of us will be completely unaffected.

At 4.3 kilometers wide, Florence would devastate a significant chunk of our planet if it collided with us. A task force on Near Earth Objects has estimated that a rock that size would kill 1.5 billion people. But Florence won’t get anywhere near close enough to do that, just like the many ‘close calls’ we’ve had with large celestial objects in the past. We keep hearing about how dangerous an asteroid collision could be, yet we never seem to be in any real danger. What gives?

Space is big. Really big. This should go without saying, but it’s worth remembering just how vast it is. A 4.3 kilometer asteroid sounds enormous, and it seems like it wouldn’t take much for a rock that large to unexpectedly run into Earth. And it's not just visits from Aunt Flo we need to worry about–there are about 1,400 objects that cross our orbit that are capable of causing major problems.

Test 2. Variant 5

Rubbish futures: can technology help us reach zero waste?

Turning dug-up waste into gas or converting rubbish into building materials are among new techniques that may help end landfill

“What do you think happens to the rubbish when you throw it out into the street?” asks Howard Moon.

“I don’t know, does it dissolve in the rain like a giant Berocca?” Inconveniently, however, those black bags endure. In the UK half of all house-

hold waste, tens of millions of tonnes ends up on the tip face. Waste management processes, such as recycling, have been developed to cut down on landfill and the EU’s recycling targets mean that countries that do not meet their reduction targets may be punished. In order to meet these ambitions many countries (especially in northern Europe) have clambered just one rung above landfill by burning instead of burying.

But technological developments and behavioural changes are bringing us to the brink of a world in which we not only stop burying our everyday gremlins, but dig up those of yesterday and turn them into useful stuff. Where methane-belching landfill sites are replaced by high-tech processing plants that turn trash into building materials, electricity and gas. It seems impossible but a waste-free society could be just around the corner.

Test 2. Variant 6

Bill Gates speech at Stanford University

We have lots of great people who've come from Stanford: Rick Rashid, who runs our research; Chris Jones, tons of great people, so we owe a lot to the school.

And the collaboration that's going on today, whether it's between Microsoft and Stanford in areas of software advances or between my foundation and Stanford on global health things, really are fantastic.

I spent the afternoon meeting with faculty, talking about the progress on those things, and sharing our ideas about where we go from here. Really it's exciting because my optimism about technology is deeply underscored when I meet these brilliant researchers, and see that they are going to get the resources, and take on these ambitious goals.

John mentioned that the middle of this year is a change for me, that I'll switch to being full time at the foundation, and part time at Microsoft, and that could be traumatic for me. I was 17 years old when I started working full time on Microsoft work, and I've done it basically every day of work since then. So, who knows what it will be like to make the change?
