3.3.13 Favourite fandoms
The dominance of Harry Potter is not surprising, although the total number of entries was undoubtedly affected by the choice of hpkizi.sk as one of the main websites where the link to the questionnaire was posted. The Sherlock Holmes (either unspecified, or specified as the BBC television version) fandom as a runner-up is again in line with some previous observations.
The responses “fanfiction.net” and “wattpad” (referring to the respective fanfiction archives) are probably a result of a misunderstanding over what was meant by “fandom”. The fault lies fully with the researcher, who should have anticipated a potential misunderstanding and provided a clear definition of “fandom”.
One interesting fact to point out is that the most veteran participant (the only one who declared to have been active before 2000) is one of the only two respondents who listed a videogame franchise as their favourite fandom (in this case Dragon Age, a popular RPG78 story driven video game). The only other videogame that got mentioned is Life is Strange.
