Abraham Lincoln University uses a basic teaching principle, where the student will read their textbooks (casebooks) and either have their lectures and handouts available on the Internet live, archived, or on CDROMs. Students who wish may also choose to attend academic support sessions where their learning will be reinforced and clarified by the same lecture. Much of the class is devoted to lecture by the professor with adequate time for interaction and questions by the students.

Text 12. Perm Institute of the Federal Penal Service

Perm Institute of the Federal Penal Service is situated in 125 Karpinsky Street. The institute was founded in 2008. The chief of the institute is Major-general Zlobin S.I. The institute trains lawyers and zootechnicians for the penal system. There are two departments in our institute: Part-time Department and Department of the Extrabudgetary Education. There are 9 chairs in the institute. The term of training at the Day-time Department is 4 years and at the Part-time Department is 5 years.

The institute has classrooms and lecture-halls, libraries, laboratories, gymnasiums, a shooting gallery and a drill-ground. At the institute cadets and students study Criminal Law, Civil Law, Constitutional Law, Criminalistics, Operative Detective Activity, and Penal Psychology. They also study such academic subjects as Logic, Maths and Computing, Russian, English and others.

The academic year consists of a summer term and a winter term. We have lectures, seminars and practical classes. Then we pass tests and exams.

After graduation from Perm Institute of the Federal Penal Service cadets and students get a diploma of a lawyer or a zootechnician.

Text 13. Ryazan Academy of Law and Management

of the Federal Penal Service

Ryazan Academy of Law and Management of the Federal Penal Service is one of the leading institutions of the Federal Penal Service.

As for me, I am proud of being a cadet of this Academy. After graduation from it, I shall get a diploma of higher education. I hope, I shall work as a correctional officer at a penitentiary institution.

The number of cadets, students, postgraduates at the Academy is around 6 000 people. There are 22 chairs, 5 faculties, Academic postgraduate courses and the Municipal specialists Training. Staff training is organized in full and part time, external studies are also available. Part time students can use distance learning.

The Academy was founded in 2005. The chief of the Academy is a major-general, professor Grishko. The Academy of Law and Management of the Federal Penal Service of Russia is situated in the centre of Ryazan, 1, Sennaya Street, which was founded more than 900 years ago.

There are 5 faculties at the Academy. They are the faculty of Management, the faculty of Economics and Teacher Training and Science faculty.

As for me, I am a first-year cadet of the faculty of Law. Scientific research work of cadets and students id done in 25 work-

shops, established under supervision of the Academy’s Chairs.

Over 80% per cent of students participate in various forms of scientific research: conferences, seminars and competitions.

The staff of the Academy takes part in a number of international research projects and cooperation programms. It is Russian-British cooperation on penal staff training with Salford University.

The Academy is one of the well-equipped educational institutions. Among the available facilities spacious lecture halls, classes,

gyms, labs with proper IT support are worth mentioning.

The facilities include shooting galleries and ranges, wrestling gyms and sport grounds, which ensure proper training of highly qualified law-enforcement specialists.

The Academy is one of the leading institutions of the Federal Penal Service in sport. Sport activities encourage the staff of the Academy to train sports and to choose healthy way of life, to develop collaboration with educational and law-enforcement institutions. The Academy is provided with facilities and equipments for physical training and sports and participation in competitions.

A range of advanced physical training groups are functioning within the Academy self-defense/wrestling, judo, hand-to-hand fighting, shooting, skiing, athletics, volleyball, football, basketball, boxing, swimming.

Abraham Lincoln was born Sunday, February 12, 1809, in a log cabin near Hodgenville, Kentucky. He was the son of Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln, and he was named for his paternal grandfather. When Abraham was seven, the family moved to southern Indiana. In 1818 Abraham Lincoln's mother died from milk sickness.

Abraham Lincoln attended school at irregular intervals and he didn't attend college at all. In 1830 the Lincolns moved west to Illinois. Lincoln was a member of the Whig Party; he remained a Whig until 1856 when he became a Republican. Additionally, he studied law in his spare time and became a lawyer in 1836.
