Pulmonary Venous Congestion

Variations in pulmonary blood flow (arteries or veins) can help narrow differential diagnosis to pulmonary and cardiac processes. For example, vascular congestion in the form of pulmonary venous congestion can help track the prognosis on ICU patients with primary vascular/cardiac issues versus overflow issues from other processes.

Figure 4.63 depicts a congested vasculature pattern. Notice the engorged veins, especially in the upper lungs.

Findings: Increased pulmonary vasculature. Pattern: Vascular.

Differential Diagnosis: PVH, CHF, ARDS.
