A study on trade, investment and energy cooperation of Belt and Road Initiative countries

Abstract: With the announcement of “the vision and action for jointly building the silk road economic belt and the 21st century maritime silk road”, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has entered the stage of comprehensive promotion. Trade, investment and energy cooperation are the key contents of the BRI construction, and they are steadily promoted among BRI countries. This paper analyzes systematically the present situation of trade between China and BRI countries, China’s direct investment on BRI countries, and energy efficiency of BRI countries. Then this paper gets empirical conclusions from the perspective of (1) impact of China-BRI countries trade on the green total-factor productivity of BRI countries, (2) the influence factors and potential of China’s outward foreign direct investment on BRI countries, (3) whether the energy efficiency of BRI countries is convergence. Finally, based on the empirical results, this paper gets corresponding policy implications for enhancing the trade, investment and energy cooperation along BRI at the level of total BRI countries, from the sights of trade, investment and energy efficiency.
