10.12.1  Discussion

Montgomery T-tubes are silicone tubes that have three limbs extending into the subglottic larynx, trachea, and tracheostomy (Fig. 10.75). T-tubes are used to manage complex laryngotracheal

lesions, such as tracheal stenosis, tracheomalacia, and tracheal injury. Perhaps the main complication is subglottic granulation tissue formation, which can be treated by laser therapy. In addition, these tubes are at risk for mucus plugging and occlusion, which may not be recognized clinically in the emergency department.
