Fig. 1. Mechanical failure energy W of the three-dimensionally cross-linked elastomer filled with polyfractional silicon dioxide as a function of tensile strain εb at different values of the chemical cross-link concentration and testing temperature. Т, K: (1) 223,
(2)293, and (3) 323; the same for Figs. 2 and 3. νch, mol/ cm3: (a) 0.1×10–5, (b) 0.3×10–5,
(c)0.5 × 10–5, (d) 1 × 10–5, (e) 3 × 10–5, and (f) 5 × 10–5
It is also important to note the following. An increasein the breaking elongation of a filled three-dimensionally cross-linked elastomer, in accordance with Eq. (1), is favored by a decreased level of the main structural parameters (νch, φr, φ/φm), and also of the structural glass transition point of the
161
polymeric binders, using the previously accepted designations as applied to Eq. (1). This fact is probably responsible for the corresponding increase in W with increasing εb. The theoretically obtained dependence (1) of the mechanical failure energy of a three-dimensionally cross-linked filled elastomer on the main structural parameters of the composite can be recommended for solving direct and inverse problems in designing new polymeric composites for various purposes with the required set of operation characteristics [1]. In so doing, it is appropriate to use computer programs that include mathematical optimization methods [13, 14]. Naturally, this will lead to quicker PCM development and to materials saving, in particular, when developing a frost-resistant asphalt coating and deformation seams for automobile roads with considerably increased operation life [15].
Dependence of the mechanical failure energy on the filler fraction mixture. The polymeric binder contained tributyl phosphate as plasticizer [φsw = (1 – φr) = 0.3].

The optimum parameters of the fractions are given in Table 5. The standard relative strain velocity was chosen, 1.4 × 10–3 s–1.
We considered composites based on the polymeric binder with mixtures of two, three, and four (Fig. 2) fractions of silicon dioxide.

Fig. 2. Mechanical failure energy W of the elastomer composite as a function of the tensile strain εb of the PCM at different temperatures. Filler:
(a) two-fraction, (b) three-fraction, and (c) four-fraction
163
The plots in Fig. 2 show how the number of fractions taken in an optimum ratio infl uences the breaking strain (with insignifi cant variation of the mechanical failure energy). For example, at 223 K, the ultimate εb value increases from 25 for two-fraction silicon dioxide to 35 for three-fraction silicon dioxide and 40% for four-fraction silicon dioxide, i.e., by a factor of approximately 2. Similar trend is observed at 293 and 323 K. The latter fact is very favorable for using PCM as waterproofi ng frost-resistant coating for automobile road asphalt [8].
Dependence of the failure energy on the degree of binder plasticization. Tributyl phosphate, a thermodynamically compatible plasticizer for the binder based on lowmolecularmass rubbers SKD-KTR and PDI-3B and on EET-1 resin, was taken in the amounts corresponding to the φr/φsw ratios of 0.7/0.3, 0.5/0.5, and 0.3/0.7.
Figure 3 shows how the mechanical failure energy of the elastomer composite containing three-fraction silicon dioxide (Table 5) depends on the tensile strain at different temperatures. As can be seen, at 223 K the quantityW slightly decreases with an increase in the degree of plasticization φsw from 0.3 to 0.7, whereas the breaking strain increases by a factor of 2.5. At elevated temperature (323 K), W also slightly decreases, whereas the breaking strain increases by a factor of 2.2. Taking into account the feasibility factor, the use of the plasticized waterproofi ng frost-resistant elastomer composite of this type can be recommended only for particular cases (tunnels, bridges) and for polar latitudes of the Earth.
CONCLUSIONS
The dependence of the mechanical failure energy of a threedimensionally cross-linked plasticized elastomer composite on its main structural parameters, effective cross-link concentration, degree of plasticization of the polymeric binder base, and the fractional composition of the dispersed filler, was studied.
(2) The elastomer with the chemical cross-link concentration of the order of (0.1–1.0) × 10–5 mol/cm3, highly filled (volume fraction 0.65) with polyfractional silicon dioxide, can be recommended for use as material for waterproofi ng frost-resistant asphalt coating and deformation seams of automobile roads with increased operation life. The material can operate in the temperature interval 223–323 K.

(3)An increase in the number of silicon dioxide fractions from two to four, with the fractions taken in the optimum ratio, leads to a twofold increase in the breaking strain with insignifi cant changes in the mechanical failure energy under extension conditions.
(4)Plasticization of the polymeric binder base of the filled elastomer increases by a factor of 2.5–2.2 its elasticity at operation temperatures of 223– 323 K with only slight decrease in the mechanical failure energy.
