Tonight, I come to talk about crisis and opportunity. About rebuilding the nation, revitalizing our democracy, and winning the future for America. I stand here tonight one day shy of the 100th day of my administration. A hundred days since I took the oath of office, lifted my hand off our family Bible and inherited a nation — we all did — that was in crisis. The worst pandemic in a century. The worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. The worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War. Now, after just 100 days, I can report to the nation, America is on the move again. Turning peril into possibility, crisis into opportunity, setbacks to strength.
We all know life can knock us down. But in America, we never, ever, ever stay down. Americans always get up. Today, that’s what we’re doing. America is rising anew. Choosing hope over fear, truth over lies and light over darkness. After 100 days of rescue and renewal, America is ready for a takeoff, in my view. We’re working again, dreaming again, discovering again and leading the world again. We have shown each other and the world that there’s no quit in America.

One hundred days ago, America’s house was on fire. We had to act. Thanks to the extraordinary leadership of Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Schumer and the overwhelming support of the American people – Democrats, Independents and Republicans — we did act. Together, we passed the American Rescue Plan, one of the most consequential rescue packages in American history. We’re already seeing the results.

Exzellenzen, sehr geehrter Herr Oberbürgermeister, sehr geehrte Damen und Herren hier im Saal und zu Hause an den Bildschirmen, unser Nationalfeiertag, dieser Tag der Deutschen Einheit, geht nicht auf ein Ereignis weit vor unserer Zeit tief in unserer Geschichte zurück. Vielmehr erinnert er an etwas, das die meisten von uns bewusst miterlebt haben und das heute vor 31 Jahren unser Leben verändert hat.

Der 3. Oktober 1990 steht für die Wiedervereinigung unseres Landes in Frieden und Freiheit. Diese Freiheit brach nicht einfach über uns herein, diese Freiheit wurde errungen. Das Land, das wir heute als wiedervereinigtes feiern, konnte werden, weil es Menschen in der DDR gab, die für ihre Rechte, für ihre Freiheit, für eine andere Gesellschaft alles riskiert haben. Wir stehen in der Schuld derer, die so viel gewagt haben, die mutig, hoffungsvoll auf die Straße gegangen sind. Wir dürfen nie vergessen, dass es auch anders hätte ausgehen können. Wer damals aufstand, wer für die demokratischen Rechte sprach und demonstrierte, konnte nicht sicher sein, dass es sich lohnen würde, dass die Revolution gelingen würde, dass es nicht bitter bestraft würde. Das ist wahrhaftiger
Mut.
Auch dürfen wir nie vergessen, dass die Einheit Deutschlands ohne das Engagement unserer Nachbarn in Mittelund Osteuropa undenkbar wäre. Ob in Polen, in Ungarn, in der Tschechoslowakei – überall gab es Menschen, die mit ihrem Einsatz für Freiheit und demokratische Mitbestimmung die Teilung Europas überwanden. Dieser gemeinsame Einsatz führte auch dazu, dass auch die damalige Sowjetunion die Überwindung des Kalten Krieges geschehen ließ.
Unvergessen bleibt die Unterstützung unserer Partner im Westen – allen voran der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika, Frankreichs und
Großbritanniens. Sie brachten einem wiedervereinigten Deutschland ein keineswegs selbstverständliches Vertrauen entgegen. Dieses Vertrauen war über Jahrzehnte aufgebaut worden – zuvorderst von Staatsmännern wie Konrad Adenauer, Willy Brandt, Helmut Kohl; und in dieser Stadt will ich auch Hans-Dietrich Genscher nennen. C. Ce sont mille chemins différents qui nous ont conduits ici aujourd’hui, vous et moi, animés par le même désir de servir. Et même si ce désir n’a pas le même visage, pas la même forme, même s’il n’emporte pas les mêmes conséquences, nous en connaissons vous et moi la source : le simple amour de la patrie. Certains font de la politique depuis longtemps ; pour d’autres, au nombre desquels je me range, c’est loin d’être le cas. Vous soutiendrez ou vous combattrez, selon vos convictions, le gouvernement que j’ai nommé. Mais à la fin nous savons tous que quelque chose de très profond nous réunit, nous anime et nous engage. Oui, le simple amour

de la patrie – que celle-ci s’incarne dans la solitude des collines de
Haute Provence ou des Ardennes, dans la tristesse des grands ensembles où une partie de notre jeunesse s’abîme, dans la campagne parfois dure à vivre et à travailler, dans les déserts industriels, mais aussi dans la gaieté surprenante des commencements. De cet amour nous tirons tous, je crois, la même impatience, qui est une impatience d’agir. Elle prend parfois les traits de l’optimisme volontaire, d’autres fois ceux d’une colère sincère. Toujours elle découle de cette même origine. Nous avons, vous et moi, reçu le mandat du peuple. Qu’il nous ait été donné par la nation entière ou par les électeurs d’une circonscription, ne change rien à sa force. Qu’il ait été porté par le suffrage direct ou par le suffrage indirect ne change rien à sa nature. Qu’il ait été obtenu voici un certain temps déjà, ou bien récemment à l’issue d’une campagne où toutes les opinions ont pu s’exprimer dans leur diversité, et que vous incarniez ces opinions différentes, ne change rien à l’obligation collective qui pèse sur nous. Cette obligation est celle d’une transformation résolue et profonde, tranchant avec les années immobiles ou avec les années agitées – toutes au résultat également décevant. C’est par cette voie que nous retrouverons ce qui nous a tant manqué, la confiance en nous, la force nécessaire pour accomplir nos idéaux. Ce qui nous est demandé par le peuple français, c’est de renouer avec l’esprit de conquête qui l’a fait, pour enfin le réconcilier avec lui-même. En vous élisant, dans votre nouveauté radicale, à l’Assemblée nationale, le peuple français a montré son impatience à l’égard de ce monde politique fait de querelles stériles et d’ambitions creuses où nous avions vécu jusqu’alors. C’est à une manière de voir la politique qu’il a donné congé. En accordant leur confiance à des femmes et des hommes nouveaux, les Français ont exprimé une impérieuse attente, la volonté d’une alternance profonde. Je suis sûr que vous en êtes tous aussi conscients que moi. Et je sais bien, aussi, que les sénateurs en ont une pleine conscience, bien que leur élection soit plus ancienne, parce qu’ils ont perçu, eux si attentifs par nature aux mouvements du temps, les espoirs nouveaux que l’expression du suffrage universel direct a fait naître. Etre fidèle à ce que le peuple français a voulu suppose donc une certaine forme d’ascèse, une exigence renforcée, une dignité particulière. Les

mauvaises habitudes reviennent vite. Marqués par une époque de cynisme, de découragement, et j’ose le dire de platitude, nombreux encore sont ceux qui spéculent sur un échec qui justifierait leur scepticisme.

A. Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic [10]
On 31 December 2019, WHO was informed of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause in Wuhan City, China. A novel coronavirus was identified as the cause by Chinese authorities on 7 January 2020 and was temporarily named “2019-nCoV”.
Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases. A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans. The new virus was subsequently named the “COVID-19 virus”.

On 30 January 2020, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Di- rector-General declared the novel coronavirus outbreak a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), WHO's highest level of alarm. At that time there were 98 cases and no deaths in 18 countries outside China.
On 11 March 2020, the rapid increase in the number of cases outside China led the WHO Director-General to announce that the outbreak could be characterized as a pandemic. By then more than 118 000 cases had been reported in 114 countries, and 4291 deaths had been recorded.
By mid-March 2020, the WHO European Region had become the epicentre of the epidemic, reporting over 40% of globally confirmed cases. As of 28 April 2020, 63% of global mortality from the virus was from the Region.
Since the first cases were reported, WHO has worked around the clock to support countries to prepare and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the words of Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, “Through transparent knowledge-sharing, tailored support on the ground, and steadfast solidarity, we will beat COVID-19.”
Advice for the public
WHO continues to encourage individuals to take care of their own health and protect others by:
•washing hands frequently with water and soap or using handsanitizing gel;
•maintaining social distancing (keeping a distance of 1 metre (3 feet) between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing);
•avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth;
•wearing a mask as needed;
•following respiratory hygiene (covering your mouth and nose with your folded elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze, then disposing of the used tissue immediately);
•seeking medical care early if you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing; and
•staying informed and following advice given by your health care provider, national and local public health authority, or employer on how to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.
